TBS Cam Down this Morning

Jec reports there was an earthquake in Japan.

I've not found confirmation yet.

There was a 8 magnitude earthquake in Okhotsk described by the USGS here http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/usb000h4jh#summary

The TBS cam is down altogether. It's not running at all.

The Tepco cam looks 'wavy' with what looks to be sparks rising from unit 3 and the common spent fuel pool area. I've seen these spark phenomenon before. The effect is strong today. Unfortunately, its hard to capture in a screen shot. I think gas can be seen rising from unit 3 in the second screen shot:

Majia here: I wonder when the TBS cam went down. Yesterday it revealed some sort of red gaseous phenomenon emerging from unit 3 here

I wonder whether the TBS was shut down because something got worse and is now more visible on the TBS cam?

My opinion from the Tepco cam observations is that gaseous emissions are visible (they appear to be pulsing) but I don't see smoke

  1. Hi Majia The livecamera checker postings indicate the cam went down some time about 06.30 JST 24th May as there was only 1/2 the last timelapse posted there (05.54 to 06.54). I looked at the cam at 07.00 JST and it was deffo down then so 06.30ish is a fair estimate. It's worrying because of the recent layer of emissions we've seen just before it went offline. Much more apparent on the TBS view.
    Regards wotcha.
